Swordfish Spotting for Phleger Institute of Environmental Research (PIER) and NOAA Southwest Fisheries Science Center, Southern California Bight
A collaborative effort between Oceans Aloft, local commercial harpoon fishermen, and fellow spotter plane pilots enabled several Popoff Archival Tags (PAT) to be applied to swordfish in waters off Southern California. Information gained from these satellite pop off tags will allow researchers to better understand the vertical and horizontal movements of Swordfish in the Southern California Bight.
